Other Educational Opportunities

For those not quite ready for a large university experience there are quality junior and community two-year colleges right in our neighborhood. These schools also provide our communities with technical degree programs, nursing programs, and the opportunity for Adult Continuing Education classes and free classes for the Senior Citizens.

Area Community Colleges: Colleges and Universities

Quality educational facilities are within a short radius of our community. Depending upon you or your child's future career choices, from a noted "teachers" university, a noted Vet school, law school, or medical school, Alabama has it all. We've also included in our brief listing of our state universities two Mississippi universities within close proximity which are also popular local choices for higher education.

Marion County Board of Education

A public message from our Superintendent of Education:

Marion County residents have a tremendous pride in their schools and communities. Since 1875, the Marion County School System has provided educational opportunities for the many students in our area. We are hopeful that this school year will be the most successful one in our system's history.

As always, we look forward to educating the children of Marion County, and working with each community in preparing each student to successfully meet the challenges of living and working in a global society.

Marion County School System operates 12 schools (5 elementary, 5 high, 1 middle, and 1 alternative school) with a student population of 3,825 students. All of our schools are on Academic Clear, and has constantly scored above the State average on the Stanford Achievement Test scores.

The Marion County School System ranked 11th in overall improvement in test scores out of the 128 school system in the State. Only 4 county school systems ranked ahead of Marion County in the 2000-2001 school year.

We are very proud of our students, teachers, and administration in their academic achievements. We are committed to the future.

Remember, Education Is Our Future!
